A bit about Mike

Mike joined the Royal Marines in 2002 and went on to serve for 8 years. During this time he completed a tour in Afghanistan, was deployed to Norway for Arctic Warfare training and also completed exercises in the USA . He has proudly represented the Royal Navy and Combined Services Athletics Team on several occasions, cumulating in becoming the Inter-services 1500m champion in 2009.
In 2010 Mike was medically discharged from service and returned to education to retrain as a physiotherapist where he achieved a Physiotherapy BSc (Hons) degree in 2013. During his time at university he was an active member of the University Athletics and Road Running Team, and on top of coaching the team, went on to win the BUCS 1500m indoor title in 2011 and the outdoor 1500m title at the London Olympic stadium in 2012. He also participated in many charity and fund raising events gaining him honorary sporting colours from the university for his contributions.

As a newly qualified physiotherapist, Mike was successful in gaining an NHS post at Torbay hospital where he worked for 6 months, before moving to Derriford Hospital for 4 years. This time within the NHS provided him with valuable experience in orthopaedics, neurology and musculoskeletal outpatients before moving to his current job, back within the comfort of MOD walls at the Primary Health Care Facility in HMS Drake, where he has worked since 2016.
Outside of his 9-5 hours, Mike has worked extensively with a variety of athletes including those who have competed at olympic and world championship level, Commonwealth Games medalists, pro triathletes, professional dancers and world olympia fitness champions. This has required him to treat a huge range of injuries and problems within those working at the highest levels of sport.

In his spare time Mike continues to be an avid runner under the direction of his coach Graeme Riley, and he has gone on to represent England in both road and track events achieving personal bests of 1.49 (800m), 3.40 (1500m) 30.43 (10k) and 70.17 minutes (Half marathon). This passion for sports ensures Mike is well aware of the hard work needed to achieve your goals, but also the patience necessary to return post injury with appropriate rehabilitation. Your physiotherapy experience with Mike will allow you, to together, build a treatment plan tailored made to your needs and lifestyle in order to achieve your goals, whether that is walking to the corner shop independently or competing in a sport to highest level.
